- : from the server. I haven┤t done anything dirty or illegal on the IRC.
- :
- : 1. Why can you get banned? Can it mean something else?
-
- a) Because you have been doing undesirable things on that server - hacking
- channels, running clonebots, flooding people, etc. This would normally result
- in a ban on your userid / domain. Such bans do not normally extend to all
- servers.
-
- b) Because someone in your domain has been causing trouble as above, and a
- userid ban has failed to remove them (perhaps because the troublemaker can
- change his/her userid at will - c.f. POAG). In such circumstances the server
- admin may choose to k-line (server ban) the entire domain. Such bans do not
- normally extend to all servers. Note that people who cause trouble like this
- can also cause you to be banned from particular channels, as well as
- particular servers.
-
- c) Because the server thinks (from your domain name) that you are too far
- away to be allowed onto that server, and would be better off using one nearer
- to you. I get this problem on several European servers, which assume from my
- .com domain that I am in the US, even though I am not. Obviously, such bans
- do not extend to all servers.
-
- : 2. What are those fonts Grapevine asks for?
-
- Grapevine uses two fonts - one for the channel text / channel user list
- windows and one for menus / title bars etc. Pick whichever fonts you want for
- these. A non-proportional font in the channel text window is probably a good
- idea.
-
- : 3. What is the login code on the server? From where did I get it?
-
- From the operators of the server. Most servers do not require a password.
-
- : 4. Can I get in contact with the operator, without being connected?
-
- Connect to another server and type /admin <server name>. This will give you
- the nickname and (usually) e-mail address of the server operators involved. If
- you cannot connect to _any_ server, ask someone else to get the information
- for you.
